Courtyard Celebrates 30 Years
"Thirty years ago, our hotels catered to guests who were all about work and more work. We have innovated steadily to meet our guests' changing needs and their desire for more options and flexibility during their stay. The response has been significant," he is quoted as saying on the company website.
Courtyard was the first brand in the hospitality industry that introduced a digital lobby concierge and the first to offer calorie counts in its restaurants.
"Courtyard continues to lead and define the segment year after year. We understood what our guests wanted 30 years ago and we understand them now," said Janis Milham, Senior Vice President of Marriott Modern Essentials and Extended Stay Brands.
In St. Petersburg, Marriott operates three hotels at the moment. These are the 5-star Renaissance St. Petersburg Baltic Hotel on Pochtamtskaya Ulitsa and two four-star hotels under the Courtyard brand on Vasilievsky Island and on Kanal Griboedova.
"Taking into account the number of rooms across all three local locations, Marriott accounts for the fourth largest number of rooms among both international and Russian operators in St. Petersburg," said Yelena Prozorova, a consultant at Maris, part of the CBRE Affiliate Network, speaking to the St. Petersburg Times.
The first three places on the list belong to Rezidor, InterContinental and Sokos.
"It was expected that one more Marriott hotel would be opened near Pulkovo Airport," said Prozorova.
"However, an agreement was never reached and Park Inn Radisson hotel will open near the airport's new terminal instead. There are six hotels in Russia that are operated under the Courtyard by Marriott brand. Two are in Moscow, the same number are in St. Petersburg, and there is one in Irkutsk and one in Kazan," she said.
To mark the milestone, Courtyard hosted a global anniversary party with major events in Hong Kong, Doha, Berlin, Mexico City and Atlanta, the location of the first Courtyard. Currently, Courtyard has nearly 1,000 locations in 38 countries.
